Great Yarmouth is a popular holiday destination for people from all over the United Kingdom and beyond due to its long sandy beaches and excellent tourist infrastructure. On a hot summers day, it really is hard to beat the atmosphere along the seafront. Great Yarmouth also has many facilities and attractions which are not dependent on the weather, and are in fact great places to visit on a sunny day or a rainy day. One of those places is the Great Yarmouth Sea Life Centre which can be found on Marina Parade.
The Sea Life Centre is open all the year around from 10 in the morning, and is an ideal place for all the family to visit. It is one of the biggest sea life centres in the country with over 1000 creatures and 60 displays and also has a cafe where there are kids eat for free deals and of course, a souvenir shop.
Interactive Childrens Touch Pool RockPool
Children in particular will love it here, and the centre even offers Sea Life birthday parties where the kids can enjoy a party exploring the world that lives underneath the water! There are many interactive features for them, and one of the most popular of these is the interactive rockpool. Here, the kids are taught how to handle perfectly safe creatures by the friendly and expert staff. Remember to get some pictures of them touching a starfish or holding a crab!
Penguin Feeding Time Show
Next up, should be a visit to the penguins. These are very amusing creatures, and always seem to excite the kids! The penguins get fed twice a day during opening hours, and if you are present at the times of 12.00 or 15.30, you can also listen to the talk given by the staff as they feed them.
African Dwarf Crocodiles
Once you have left the rockpool area, you might like to take a look at the African dwarf Crocodiles. Don't worry though, the glass tank keeps them at a safe distance! You can see the crocodiles at any time of day, but if you return at four in the afternoon, you can experience the crocodile talk, where you will find out more about them.
Yarmouth Sealife Shark Tunnel
One of the most spectacular things about the Great Yarmouth Sea Life Centre, is being able to walk through a Shark tunnel underneath the large fish tank. The feeling of having thousands upon thousands of litres of water overhead is made all the more real, when you sea the different species of fish swimming around. Keep your eyes open because Yes, there are sharks in there too! Whilst you are there, see if you can spot the four of them, three being nurse sharks and one being a zebra shark. The zebra shark can be hard to spot at times due to its natural camouflage!
Sting Rays and Other Species of Marine Fish
There are of course many other creatures which can be seen during your visit, such as the rays and turtles, and countless hundreds of small colourful fish. It is almost impossible to remember all the species, and so thankfully, there are information boards to keep you informed throughout your visit, not only explaining what they are, but also the interactions between them all.
If all this has wetted your appetite, then you might be pleased to know that there are a few ways of making the most of your time there, and also, purchasing the tickets more economically. One important point to keep in mind, is that the ticket is valid for the entire day. This means that you can visit the sea life centre in the morning, but then return in the afternoon to witness the feeding times of say the penguins with the accompanying talk. You can plan out a schedule before you arrive if you wish, as the Sea Life Centre website has the feeding times listed online.
In terms of purchasing tickets more economically, there are several ways to do this. You can keep a look out for two for one offers in newspapers and local magazines, you can use Nectar points, buy online, and children can even get in free if they have a Blue Peter badge from time to time! If you are visiting the Great Yarmouth Sea Life Centre on a whim and don't have tickets in advance, you can always book at the last minute online for the best prices.
The Great Yarmouth Sea Life Centre is a wonderful place to visit for all the family, and if you are on holiday in coastal Norfolk, it is an attraction that should not be missed. With its mix of fun, education and wonder, the memories of a visit there will add to what is sure to be a marvellous holiday in Great Yarmouth.
