Holkham is a small village and parish in the north westerly region of Norfolk near Wells-next-the-sea. Holkham is home to a number of famous properties such as Holkham Hall, and is also home to the beautiful beach at Holkham Gap. There are a number of sites in Holkham that have garnered a good amount of attention in recent years, mostly due to Holkhamís rich history. The landscape is amazing, and is home to several different types of topography including sand dunes and beaches. The town is relatively small, and is home to only about 250 individuals who live in just over a hundred households spread across the natural landscape of the area. Holkham gained widespread media attention when it was used in the final scenes of Shakespeare in Love in 1998. These scenes featured the beautiful stretch of Holkham Beach, which since has become a popular spot for nature photography and is part of the areas nature reserve.

Holkham is home to a number of different sites of natural beauty that have become quite popular tourist attractions lately, including :

  • The Beach (Holkham Gap) - The Beach at Holkham Gap is a favourite with many tourists and one of the best beaches in the area. Its beautiful sands and bright blue waters make for a fantastic relaxing holiday break for couples or a scenic vacation spot for families with children. The Beach is home to an amazing variety of wildlife, and has become very well known in the birdwatcher community over recent years.
  • The Lake Cruise - The Holkham Lake follows the line of the original tidal creek that filled the region before it was dammed up and used to sculpt the beautiful lake that now sits in its place. The Lake is a long body of water, and is surrounded by beautiful land and plant life. The waters of the Lake are home to different kinds of coarse fish including many eels, although fishing is prohibited on the lake. During the summer and spring months, tourists can enjoy a half an hour long cruise with a knowledgeable tour guide narrating the journey around the lake, pointing out the different natural sights and sounds.
  • Holkham Hall - Built in the mid 1700ís, Holkham Hall has become a very popular historic attraction for tourists. The mansion is Palladian style, and reflects a certain appreciation for classical art. A number of concerts have been held at the Holkham Hall by famous artists, including the likes of U2 and Elton John.
  • Bygones Museum - A museum of agricultural machinery and horse drawn carriages dating back to the Victorian period the Bygones Holkham Museum is famous for its Farming exhibits, vintage automobiles and steam powered machinery. The beautiful scenery and architecture of the museum have also helped make this a popular attraction with many tourists.

Holkham also boasts some exciting restaurants and high class eateries making the area well worth stopping by for a bite. More like a tourist resort than a town, Holkham has been becoming steadily more popular in recent years. The amazing scenery and protected nature reserve wildlife has drawn people by the thousands to the shores of Holkham Gap beach and the historic stately homes for a vacation. The choice of accommodation in Holkham is excellent, making it very easy to spend an entire week enjoying all that Holkham has to offer. There are also a number of specified nature trails available to nature loving visitors who would like to experience the wildlife and sights of Holkham whilst walking.
