Wells next the Sea is situated on the north Norfolk coast in the east of England. Known more simply as Wells, it is a popular place for people to take holidays and visit on day trips. During school holiday periods and the Summer months thousands of holidaymakers visit Wells and its sandy beaches. The area boasts many Hotel or Bed and Breakfast style accommodation as well as a wide selection of holiday cottages for visitors to stay in.
The town finds itself divided into three broadly distinctive areas, which are the Buttlands, Straithe Street area and the quay and harbour area. The Buttlands is defined by its lime trees and Georgian houses, The Straithe Street area is known by its narrow streets and shops, and the quay and harbour area by its amusement arcades and beach shops.
One of the main attractions for people visiting Wells, especially during the summer, is the beach. Here you can expect colourful huts and long stretches of sand. Running alongside the beach and before the tree line is a raised pathway, which provides for a nice relaxing walk with wonderful views in a fresh sea breeze. The harbour also has a miniature railway that runs from the harbour and town area approximately one mile to the seafront Pinewoods Holiday Site.
There are also many interesting places to visit in the area surrounding Wells. One of these is Holkham which is a village near Wells, and its main attraction apart from the beach at Holkham Gap is the stately home, Holkham Hall. Other notable towns and villages nearby include Hunstanton and Cromer.
Wells has accommodation ranging from quiet bed and breakfast establishments to larger hotels. It is an ideal place to take a holiday, pass a weekend or even to visit the beach on a day trip at any time of year, but particularly during the summer.
