Norwich is the largest city in the English county of Norfolk, and is about a twenty minute drive from the east coast. Its past stretches back to the 5th century when it was settled by the Anglo-Saxons and was a major trading centre. After the Norman conquest, a castle was built, and it still looks impressive to this very day.
Norwich cathedral was also built at this time, and is often remarked upon as one of the most magnificent in England. With its stained glass windows and superbly crafted stonework, it certainly is a sight to behold. Norwich also boasts dozens of other churches, and each one has its own special aspect or another feature that makes it unique.
An interesting way of getting around the city and visiting sites such as the above mentioned cathedral and more, is by taking the river bus. It follows the River Wensum through the city and stops at many major locations. The boat journey itself is also a pleasant way of passing some time in this beautiful city.
The old section of the city offers the chance to walk along cobbled streets and visit boutique shops, museums such as the Bridewell and much more besides. There is a huge wealth of things to see and do in the city, and at least a days sight seeing is strongly recommended.
Norwich itself has many fine accommodation options to suit all needs and budgets, and so staying in the city for a night or more is easily possible. The other alternative would be to visit it on a day trip, and there is ample parking around the town if you should choose to do so.
