Holkham is a village situated in the north west of the county of Norfolk in England. It is best known for its nature reserve, the Holkham Hall estate, and Holkham Bay. Many people choose to visit here on a day trip if they are staying in the area, although there are also some Hotel and Holiday Cottage Hire accommodation prospects in and around the village.
Holkham Nature Reserve Norfolk
The nature reserve covers much of the surrounding area, and is home to a wide variety of plants, birds and animals. Birdwatchers in particular will love it here, and there are all manner of species such as waterfowl, marsh harriers, lapwings and wild geese. The Holkham Nature Reserve can be explored by using a series of interconnected footpaths, and one begins from the Lady Annes Drive Car Park in Holkham Village.
Holkham Hall Estate
The Holkham Hall Estate is close by, and is the current home of the Coke family, where the Earl of Leicester resides. It is open to the public between April and October, and private guided tours are also available to groups of twelve or more. It is an interesting stately home to visit, and produces some quite memorable photographs.
Holkham Bay and Holkham Gap Beach
Last, but certainly not least, some mention must be made of the beach and bay. The golden sands are at their most impressive during a low tide and entice people to walk across them. The bay is surrounded by pine trees and dunes, and many people choose to bring a picnic in order to make a day of it. The bay area must be one of the most beautiful in the entire country, and a trip to this part of Norfolk would not be complete without a visit to Holkham.
